On July 31, 1995, the Baraboo Police Department received a strange 911 call. On the line was a teenager who, despite his calm tone, described a dire situation—he was trapped in a house with both legs shattered. What officers didn’t know at the time was that the caller, 13-year-old Thad Phillips, was just hours away from death due to internal injuries.
Thad’s ordeal began when he was lured to a house under false pretenses, and held captive. Over the next two days, Thad was tortured by an unexpected person. In spite of what he endured, Thad attempted to escape twice, only to be recaptured each time. But despite his injuries, he managed to stay alive and outsmart his captor long enough to make that fateful call.
As investigators unraveled the case, they discovered chilling details. Thad wasn’t just a victim—he was the sole survivor of a teenage predator known as the “Bonebreaker.” His testimony not only brought his captor to justice but also solved the mysterious death of another boy, thought to have been an accident a year earlier. Thad’s courage turned the tables on a killer who thought his secrets would remain buried forever.

On November 18, 1978, in the depths of the Guyanese jungle, 12-year-old Tracy Parks faced an unimaginable choice: stay and risk certain death or flee into the dense wilderness with nothing but her father’s desperate words echoing in her mind: “Escape and don’t come back until it’s safe.” This was the day the world would come to know as the Jonestown massacre—a day of unthinkable tragedy, orchestrated by the manipulative cult leader Jim Jones.
As chaos erupted around her, Tracy disappeared into the jungle, hiding from gunmen patrolling the area and the hum of helicopters circling above. Alone and terrified, Tracy vowed to survive—and ensure that the truth about Jim Jones and his deadly cult would never be forgotten.
You might know about Jonestown, but this is the untold story of the little girl who lived.
