At 3:30 am on February 21st 2008, Melissa Oxley frantically calls 911 from her bedroom in Minden, Nevada. She’s just woken up next to the dead body of her husband, Ben, who’s been murdered with a shotgun in his sleep. She hides with her 6-year-old stepdaughter, Alyssa, pleading with dispatchers to hurry, since she can hear footsteps downstairs, but when police arrive, there’s no intruder found. As all clues point to Melissa, Ben’s daughter, 6 YO Alyssa, breaks her silence: she was the only one awake in the house, and what she saw that night will take the investigation in a whole different direction, throwing suspicion onto her own mother, Dawn Oxley, and Dawn's boyfriend, James Matlean.

On Christmas Eve 2008, just before midnight, 911 operators scramble as every phone rings off the hook in the city of Covina, California. All the callers frantically report a massive explosion on East Knollcrest drive—the Ortegas' family home— but what the survivors themselves tell 911 is even more disturbing: the nightmare actually began before the house went up in flames, when a man dressed as Santa Claus opened fire during the family dinner. Now, the surviving Ortega family must get justice, but also figure out how to rebuild each other after an unimaginable tragedy, and keep their Christmas spirit alive.
In her journey to rebuild, Leticia Yuzefpolsky now shares empowering stories about healing, love, & family on her blog: https://leticiashope.com/about/

June 13th 1985: Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess, a trailblazer mindhunter, sits across from an 8YO girl, trying to analyze her. 10 days prior, little Opal Horton barely escaped a kidnapping by a man who took her best friend Missy right in front of her. Now, Dr. Burgess’s job is to catch this man, to find Missy before it’s too late, but there’s one problem: Opal is not talking. Dr. Burgess will need to use everything her studies have taught her, from her nursing career, to teaching the FBI, to studying the most notorious serial killers, to eventually catch Opal’s monster. Unseen would like to sincerely thank Dr. Burgess for time to meet with us, share her insights on the case, and teach us about her groundbreaking work in mental health and forensics. Dr. Burgess has authored numerous publications, including her recent book “A Killer by Design” about her career revolutionizing treatment of the trauma and abuse, and criminal psychology, available here.
